Daniela Matei was born and raised in Sibiu, Romania, and is a graduate of the Carol Davilla Medical School. She wrote and published poetry in Romania in the early nineties as part of the Universitas Group. She emigrated to the United States in 1992 and currently lives with her family in Indianapolis, where she works as an oncologist.  Her debut poetry book The Way Back Machine was published by the Art Publishing House in Bucharest in 2011.
