The New State Board Of Education

Members of the State Board of Education hear public comment at a spring 2015 meeting – the last before lawmakers reconstituted the board.

After months of conflict and disagreement, five new people were appointed to the State Board of Education last week.

This week, the restructured board met for the first time without any noticeable issues.

State Superintendent Glenda Ritz also announced this week she's making a run for governor, calling herself the "best candidate" to beat Gov. Mike Pence.

Today on Noon Edition, we'll speak with education policy experts about how the new dynamic could affect the State Board of Education and how Glenda Ritz's gubernatorial campaign could play into the mix.

Our guests today:

  • Steve Hinnefeld, Education blogger and former reporter for The Herald-Times.
  • Marc Lotter, Spokesperson for the Indiana State Board of Education.
  • Claire McInerny, Reporter for the StateImpact Indiana education team.
