Standardized Testing And The Legislature

standardized test

Two bills are racing through the legislature to keep damages caused by a new ISTEP+ test at bay.

ISTEP+ scores from the 2015 averaged scores about 20 percent lower than last year. The scores are often linked to teacher bonuses and A through F grades assigned to schools.

The General Assembly has made it a priority to reduce the negative effects of this unusually low dip in grades by expediting legislation.

This week on Noon Edition, we'll take a look at how schools have been affected by the drop in ISTEP+ scores, and what the future may hold for the standardized tests.

Join hosts Bob Zaltsberg and Sara Wittmeyer as they look into standardized testing with StateImpact's Claire McInerny and panelists working closely with the ISTEP+ tests.

Our guests:

•Claire McInerny, Reporter, StateImpact

•Steve Hinnefeld, Blogger and Former Education Reporter

•Daniel Altman, Executive Director of Communications, Indiana Department of Education
