Monroe County Schools Consider New Academic Calendar

school calendar

How long should students be off for summer break?

That was the question that drew the most comments during a town hall meeting Wednesday night about the Monroe County Community School Corporation's proposed academic calendar.

Members of the public spoke in front of the 25-member MCCSC calendar committee made up of administrators, teachers, parents and community members.

Many parents who spoke worry summer is being cut too short by starting the school year the first week of August.

This week on Noon Edition we spoke with local leaders about the controversial decision.

Our guests:

  • Jeffry Henderson, Principal at Bloomington High School North
  • Tim Pritchett, Public Relations and Information Officer for MCCSC
  • Sarah Hurwitz, mother of three kids in MCCSC
