Local Elections And Voter Turnout

voters

Hoosiers this week elected mayors in 72 cities across Indiana and re-established an ongoing trend: many of them don't bother voting.

In Monroe County, for example, just more than 12 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot Tuesday. While that's a slight increase from 2011, it's a much lower rate of turnout than in other communities throughout the state.

This week on Noon Edition we spoke with the Monroe County Clerk about why numbers continue to be so low, a political science expert, and a re-elected mayor on his campaign and his goals in office.

Our guests:

  • Linda Robbins, Monroe County Clerk
  • Marjorie Hershey, Political Science Professor at Indiana University
