Drug Courts in Indiana

Ninety-percent of all heroin addicts who get clean relapse within the first two years, and most of them in the first six months following treatment.

Heroin and opioid use are trending upwards and causing concern for public health officials, the police and lawmakers.

Earlier this month, Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush praised Indiana’s drug courts in her State of the Judiciary address.

Drug courts have been established to move people convicted of lesser drug charges through the court system and give them treatment options.

This week on Noon Edition, we’ll discuss the utility and efficiency of drug courts and how they’re working in Indiana and across the nation.

Join hosts Bob Zaltsberg and Sara Wittmeyer as they explore what our court system can do when dealing with addiction and drug abuse.

Our guests:

Mary Ellen Diekhoff, 10th Circuit Court Judge, Monroe County

Michael Rempel, Research Director, Center for Court Innovation

Noon Edition airs Friday at 12 p.m.
