pretty funny vid,

Actually, institutionalizing jazz is destroying the music, with everyone learning the same licks and forms in order to make good grades and be 'hip', instead of taking chances and innovating.

The classical music tradition was destroyed by insititutionalization as well, with professors being the gatekeepers of what is 'art' despite the music becoming obviously garbage. They actually teach 12 tone composition in universities as if it is some kind art on par with Brahms. But no one can remember how to compose in the style of Bach, so whatever is passing for 'music theory' nowadays obviously does not encompass the knowledge of the craft of the traditional 'titans' Haydn, Mozart etc.

Also, Thelonious Monk would play bad on purpose sometimes just to watch ignorant people clap anyway.

BH
