Blue Note Records on NPR’s Talk of the Nation

Bruce Lundvall Michael CuscunaBruce Lundvall, president of the Blue Note Label Group, and Michael Cuscuna, co-founder of reissue label Mosaic Records, were both on NPR’s Talk of the Nation today, discussing the history, present, and future of the iconic Blue Note Records imprint. They also took some phone calls from jazz fans who reminisced about the musical and cultural impact of their favorite “Blue Note moments.” Pianist Bill Charlap, who’s part of the Blue Note 7 legacy group, joined Lundvall and Cuscuna for part of the program as well. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, David Brent Johnson moved to Bloomington in 1991. He is an alumnus of Indiana University, and began working with WFIU in 2002. Currently, David serves as jazz producer and systems coordinator at the station. His interests include literature, history, music, writing, and movies.
