Night Lights Classic Jazz

Benny Carter’s Kansas City Suite

Rifftides blogger and jazz eminence Doug Ramsey hipped readers several days ago to a Sunday, April 6 broadcast of Benny Carter’s rarely-heard “Kansas City Suite.” It’s at 1 p.m. PDT on KPLU.org; follow the link for more details and background about this composition and recording. (Also check out Doug’s recent tribute to Gene Puerling, late leader of the unsung Hi-Lo’s.) There’s a note about the broadcast at the Organissimo jazz discussion forum as well that includes comments from host and producer Jim Wilke. The program will be available at KPLU’s website as a podcast after its Sunday airdate.
