WFIU/WTIU News Department Wins 21 SPJ Awards

The Indiana Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has chosen WFIU and WTIU for 21 awards at its annual ceremony, including 11 plaques for first place entries.  WFIU Assistant News Director Daniel Robison and News Director Stan Jastrzebski combined to sweep all three places in the Best Radio Writing category and were named co-winners of the Best Radio Use of Sound competition.  Robison and WFIU reporter Arianna Prothero took home the plaques for Best Radio Feature in both the professional and student divisions, while WTIU reporter Kyle Mitchell grabbed the Best Television Feature award in the student division.  WFIU’s eight first place awards exceeds the total number of awards won by any other station.  The station’s cumulative total of 15 awards is more than double the number won by any other radio news department in the state.

WFIU/WTIU News Senior Editor Stan Jastrzebski spent time as a reporter with WGN Radio in Chicago and as an editor at Network Indiana, an Indianapolis news service. Stan is the winner of awards from the Associated Press, the RTDNA, the Indiana Broadcasters Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. He hosts WFIU's Ask the Mayor and anchors WTIU's InFocus.
