WFIU News Director Stan Jastrzebski and reporter Regan McCarthy hold WFIU's first place trophies from the 2010 Indiana Society of Professional Journalists award ceremony.

The WFIU/WTIU news bureau has won 38 awards (26 for WFIU and 12 for WTIU), including 10 first-place plaques (7 for WFIU, 3 for WTIU) from the Indiana chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

For the second straight year, WFIU led all Indiana radio stations in both total awards won and first-place finishes.  WFIU’s total of 26 awards is more than double the number won by any other radio station.  In fact, WFIU won 42% of all awards given out to radio stations.

In addition to wins by the WFIU news team, WFIU’s Artworks staff won two awards and WTIU’s Shameka Neely picked up a radio award for her work on President Obama’s inauguration.

WTIU’s number of wins stacks up favorably as well, trailing only WANE-TV in Fort Wayne in terms of wins by stations outside the Indianapolis market and only WANE and Indianapolis stations WTHR and WRTV overall (tying with Indy’s WISH).

In all, 20 different people from WFIU or WTIU were named on awards given out Friday.

A full list of award winners can be found at the SPJ’s website.
