West Baden Reopens Historic Hotel

After a $90 million renovation and 75 years of being shuttered, the West Baden Springs Hotel in Orange County reopened Wednesday.

Local residents gathered Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the West Baden Springs Hotel in Orange County. The 246-room hotel has been shuttered for the past 75 years, but recently underwent a $90 million renovation.

Chris Leininger is the chief operating officer for French Lick Resort and Casino. He says the project was more than just rebuilding another hotel. The hotel was built 105 years ago, but was closed during the Great Depression. State Representative Jerry Denbo has worked for years to persuade the legislature to authorize the casino and resort project in Orange County, and he was on hand for Wednesday’s ribbon cutting.

The West Baden Hotel opened on a trial basis in April. The French Lick resort opened in November. Development of the resort and casino properties is estimated to cost over $380 million.
