House Speaker Brian Bosma referenced the movie Groundhog Day when speaking to reporters Monday, saying he feels like he’s hearing the same thing over and over again, day after day. The speaker said he feels frustrated on behalf of the taxpayers.

“We’ve made it very clear, we’ve extended several olive branches. They keep trying to throw the ball back our way; I think they’re just throwing the ball any direction they can now.”

Austin Representative Terry Goodin took the floor to speak on behalf of Democrats Monday, delivering a message to the House.

“We have common ground Mr. Speaker. We can compromise. But we shall never surrender.”

Minority Leader Pat Bauer said that while he doesn’t believe the Republicans are negotiating in good faith, he is still hopeful.

“I think this can be done. Let me say this: I believe this can be done. It’s not that difficult.”

But Bauer says he is dubious that the Democrats would return Tuesday.
