A 400-foot section of the old US 421 Milton-Madison Bridge that stretches over the Ohio River was demolished Thursday in a controlled explosion.
This video, courtesy of Doe-Anderson, shows the explosion from several angles.
The 2,427-foot bridge is being demolished in four sections. The first three sections have now been demolished. The remaining 600-foot section is scheduled to be removed later this month.
A new bridge has already been built, but it is currently on temporary piers that stand next to the old bridge. Once the old bridge is completely removed, the original piers will be renovated and the new bridge will be moved onto them.
The Milton-Madison Bridge Project is a joint effort between the Indiana Department of Transportation and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
