Water rates are going up for some customers in southern Indiana. The Washington City Council voted Monday to unanimously raise the rates.
Several residents told the Council that raising the rates would hurt senior citizens and other residents on limited or fixed incomes. However, the council members say that after 12 years of no increases, the water utility was no longer solvent and something had to be done.
The increase will raise the water rates of the average home-owner by around $8 per month.
