Warehouse Holding Stage Collapse Debris Targeted By Thieves

Police say the crime was like many others in recent years, with thieves searching for materials they can fence for cash.

The debris from this collapse has been picked over by thieves looking for precious metals.

Indiana State Police are investigating a theft last weekend of an Indianapolis warehouse containing some of the debris from the State Fair stage collapse.

Police say the thieves were looking for copper and electrical wiring within the warehouse. All of the electrical wiring was stripped from the facility. The warehouse stores a large amount of debris from the stage collapse last August as part of the ongoing investigation into the tragedy.

Police say the thieves found some steel cable in the debris and stole it as well.

Investigators say it was a “crime of opportunity” and do not believe the thieves were targeting the debris itself. The investigation is ongoing.
