Power outages are being reported across the state as a wintry weather mix blankets the area. Duke Energy reported 9,000 customers in Terre Haute were without power at around noon today. Another 1100 customers had no power in Greencastle. The numbers are much less in the central part of the state where only a handful of outages are being reported. Spokesperson Lew Middleton says Duke is mobilizing a small army to get power restored as quickly as possible.
“We have arranged to bring in some extra line workers, some extra tree trimmers and such, many of whom will be coming from our sister companies in North and South Carolina. They’re on the way here now and they will be available and prepared to assist us when the time comes,” said Middleton.
Middleton says as much as Duke tries to predict the weather, sometimes nature does do unexpected things that can’t be anticipated. Forecasters are predicting much of the central part of the state will see a second wave of ice this evening that could lead to additional half inch of accumulation.
