A smoking ban for Vigo County took effect Sunday. The Clean Air Indoor Ordinance bans smoking in all public places, but does provide some exemptions in some situations. Travella Myers is the environmental health supervisor for the Vigo County Health Department. She says bars and restaurants with a “smoking room” are among the establishments exempt from the ban. Myers says health officials worked hard to make the ban a reality.
About 19 businesses chose to build a “smoking room” to comply with the ban. Businesses that violate the ban face a $100 dollar fine on the first offense.
