The Fine Arts Studio would move to the former IU Press Warehouse on Woodlawn.

The new IU Health Bloomington Hospital is moving forward. The University trustees voted Thursday to approve the land lease with IU Health that will also include an academic center.

The 65 acre site near the IU Golf Course will include the hospital and a 115,000 square foot academic center. The facility will house IU Bloomington Health Sciences related programs.

IU Bloomington Provost Lauren Robel says the university and IU Health will work together to design the site.

“I believe it’s an enormous opportunity for us to take what are an outstanding set of research and teaching resources on this campus and really bring them to bear on the future of rural population health delivery,” Robel says.

IU is investing $45 million in the project.

Designs should be ready for approval in February with construction to start later next year. The project is expected to finish by 2020.

Trustees also approved a new 675 space parking garage and office building north of 11th Street that would flow traffic to Woodlawn Avenue. IU officials have petitioned City of Bloomington officials to open 11th street to two-way traffic.
