9th District Congressman Todd Young was in Seymour earlier today to discuss the federal budget with local residents.
About 20 people filed into a community center just off Interstate 65 in Seymour’s commercial district to ask representative Young questions about the national debt. Seymour resident Caroline Wrighthouse said she is concerned about the state of the US economy.
“I’m one of the people who lived through the first depression and I’m scared to death of a second depression,” said Wrighthouse.
Ed Kern said he’s more worried about the amount of money spent by the federal government.
“I’m concerned on what’s going on in Washington, especially the budget we have. We’re spending more money than we make,” said Kern.
Young largely concentrated on what he called the need to make serious cuts to programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security while maintaining services for people over the age of 55.
