The MCCSC School Board has officially announced the appointment of an interim superintendent to temporarily fill the vacancy left the district’s retiring top administrator. At a regular board meeting last night, the board Doctor Timothy Hyland was selected to take over the position prior to the start of the new school year. MCCSC Board President Jeannine Butler says Hyland has previously served the district in a similar capacity and is already familiar with the day to day operations of the MCCSC.
“We feel like his knowledge of the school district is exactly what we need at this point in time,” said Butler.
The board met earlier in the evening with a group of MCCSC administrators who had volunteered to collectively act as interim superintendent. Board member Sue Wanzer says the board decided not to adopt the idea because of a number of constraints.
“I think for us we recognize that it probably would be best to have one go-to person in charge rather than a committee,” said Wanzer.
Several citizens voiced concerns that the interim selection process violated state open door meeting laws. Bloomington resident and IU Professor Eric Knox has filed a complaint with the Indiana Public Access Councilor.
Meanwhile, the board held a small ceremony honoring outgoing Superintendent J.T. Coopman and two departing school board members… Valerie Merriam and Vicky Strieff.
