The renovation is removing the green patina that once covered the dome.

Crews are coating the Vigo County Courthouse’s dome with gold sealant as part of a $200,000 roof repair project.

They are covering up not only the verdigris that developed on the copper roof, but also years of wear and tear that caused the roof to leak.

Contractors replaced more than 2,000 stainless steel screws, and they still have to paint the ridge caps on the roof’s corners.

They hope to complete work by September 26.
