Teen to be Tried as Adult for Martinsville School Shooting

Fifteen year-old Michael Phelps will be tried as an adult for the alleged shooting of one of his classmates.

A student who was shot at a Martinsville school last month is continuing to recover. Meanwhile, the teen accused of shooting him will be tried as an adult.

The teen accused of shooting a former classmate at Martinsville West Middle School will be tried in adult court. A Morgan County judge ruled Monday that 15-year-old Michael Phelps will be waived from juvenile court. He is accused of shooting 15-year-old Chance Jackson on March 25.  Phelps faces six charges, including theft and attempted murder.  His attorney contends Phelps was a victim of his circumstances and should be charged as a juvenile.  Meanwhile Chance Jackson continues to recover from his injuries.
