Contractors began testing Friday afternoon to determine how much oil lies beneath Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is collecting information on chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing.
Indiana State University Trustees said university officials can start negotiations with oil company about drilling on campus.
Says Greg Seiter, "This is going to be a strong summer for travel once again."
The oil exploration is located on land near the Terre Haute International Airport and is part of The Illinois Basin.
Gas prices are on the rise, and so is the cost of oil.
Indiana retailers says the recent rise in gas prices is a direct result of the increase in the price of crude.
