Just a week ago the one-one-hundredth of a percent increase in the Monroe County Juvenile COIT began taking a tiny sliver from pay checks in the county. Officials raised the levy in an effort to support the Youth Services Bureau, but in the mean time faced budget cuts. But changes to property tax laws recently led to an unexpected windfall.

Bloomington packing company Printpack is seeking a 10-year tax abatement for an expansion of its business into Monroe County. Not all Monroe Council members want to grant the abatement, but if it’s going to happen, the majority of the council agrees the memorandum will need to bind the company to certain conditions.
