Indianapolis State Senator Greg Taylor is back from Illinois after visiting his House colleagues there Wednesday. Taylor said he wanted to show his support.
“I felt like it was something that we needed to do as legislators, to show the other legislators that we were with them, that we knew what they were doing, and that we supported their efforts,” Taylor said.
Taylor says he understands why the Democrats made the move to Illinois.
“I don’t believe that leader Bauer would ever take this measure unless he believed it was the last resort.”
Taylor said he believes the walkout will lead to compromise on legislation. On Wednesday, House Speaker Brian Bosma said he and Minority Leader Pat Bauer had discussed middle ground on some pieces of legislation, but after Bosma announced impending fines for missing Democratic lawmakers, Bauer said compromise still seems far away.
