Road construction between Ellettsville and Spencer is now months behind schedule, and a cavern discovered underneath the road is one of the reasons for the delay.
A construction crew found a hole underneath the road this summer that wasn’t discovered during surveying. An INDOT spokesperson says it’s not enormous, but it’s big enough to hold a few cars.
Lovett Used cars manager Jim Edwards says the off and on construction, is taking its toll on his business.
“I don’t have the first row of cars as I normally would, it’s hard to keep inventory clean, it’s hard for customers to get in and out safely”
INDOT says construction on the road has never stopped and if everything goes as planned, the new road should be open to traffic by Thanksgiving.
