The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has reached an agreement to buy more than 150 miles of abandoned railroad corridors. These will nearly double the length of rails-to-trails corridors throughout the state. Governor Mitch Daniels says that eventually it will be possible to wander Indiana on a bicycle.
Daniels says the goal is to have a trail within 15 minutes of every Hoosier within ten years. In addition, the Governor says private and federal grants will allow the DNR to add a total of 20 miles to five existing trails in the state.
