St. Mary of the Woods College near Terre Haute will break ground in December on an $11 million sports and recreation center.

Plans for the new rec center have been in the works for almost a decade.  It will mark the first time the the ladies basketball team has ever played a home game.

“More than that it will be a gathering place for our students and allow us to offer brand new opportunities,” Dottie King, President of St. Mary of the Woods College, says. “We have athletic teams and they play their home games elsewhere, so we’ll have home games for the first time.”

The team currently plays its home games at the Clinton Recreational Center, formally known as the Clinton High School Gymnasium. All other sports have fields on the college campus.

The new center will include two gymnasiums, a fitness center, locker rooms and training center.

The college still needs to raise another $1.3 million for the project.
