A group of South Central Indiana counties is drafting a strategic plan to boost economic growth in the area.
Lilly Endowment has awarded a $615,000 planning grant to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development‘s Economic Growth Region 8, which includes Brown, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Orange, Owen and Washington counties.
Dan Peterson, the vice president of Industry and Government Affairs at Cook Group and and chair of the counties’ steering committee, says the comprehensive plan will help the area harness its full economic potential.
“By the fact that I-69 is coming through, by the fact that Radius Indiana is developed and we have money coming into those regions, how best to use those assets will be great,” he says.
The grant will also go toward helping the counties combine efforts to boost their presence in the life sciences, the science, technology, engineering and math or STEM fields and the hospitality and entertainment fields among other industries.
