Over the weekend Bloomington residents honored nearly 135 soldiers from the Indiana National Guard. Over 100 soldiers call Bloomington home and are so grateful for the wealth of support they receive.

Bagpipes played to the beat of the drum as family and friends congratulated soldiers on their safe return. The A 2-150 Ruffryders were deployed in 2008 to northern Iraq. Their mission was convoy protection and security operations. Several hundred people, including local state and government officials attended the Freedom Salute at Bloomington High School North.
Sargeant Hugh Zavala worked dispatch for the Ruffryders and said support from friends and family from home means a great deal. “We had a lot of good missions with these and it was with a lot of support from the people here in Indiana. I have family here in Bloomington and friends here. I am just so happy to be home,” he said.
