The new president-elect of Ivy Tech Community College says his background in international business and economic development has well prepared him for his new job.
Thomas Snyder previously served as president of former General Motors division Delco Remy for over a decade until 2006, and is currently the Chairman of the Flagship Energy Systems Center in Anderson. Snyder says he wants to focus Ivy Tech’s outreach and recruitment efforts on the estimated half-million Hoosiers under the age of 30 who either did not go to college or dropped out of high school. He says Ivy Tech will be at the forefront of developing a workforce for Indiana’s life sciences industry, but he adds that the community college’s focus is and must be broader than that.
Snyder also says he’s happy with Ivy Tech’s relationship with Indiana University. He says he’s confident Ivy Tech can focus on job training while at the same time grow academically to help students make the jump to a bachelor’s degree program at IU or elsewhere should they chose to do so.
