Lt. Governor Becky Skillman toured southern Indiana to get a look at the tornado damage Tuesday. Skillman says she viewed the damage both by air and on the ground and said the damage was quite stunning. However, she wasn’t surprised by the reaction of residents trying to rebuild.
“As predicted, every resident I talked to, pointed to someone else who was in greater need and that was regardless of their loss and often that loss was significant,” she says.
Skillman says she must have spoken with volunteers from every state in the country who came to southern Indiana to help out. Skillman says she also visited the relief headquarters in Sellersburg and spoke with all of the state agencies that have set up shop there.
She says the state is still doing assessments to apply for more federal assistance.
