UPDATE: First Significant Snowfall Expected Thursday Night

Wintry precipitation is expected to hit central Indiana from Thursday night through Friday night.

Early projections indicate more than 4 inches of snow are expected by this weekend.

3:30 UPDATE

The National Weather Service is issuing a Winter Storm Watch for most all of central and southern Indiana Thursday evening through Friday evening due to impassable or very slick roads. Forecasters are predicting three to six inches of combined snow and sleet beginning late Thursday afternoon until Friday night.

National Weather Service officials still say there remains some uncertainty as to the position of the storm and precipitation amounts.

ORIGINAL NOON STORY

Forecasters at the National Weather Service are predicting the first major snow event across the region Thursday. A strong cold front will push through the area early Thursday morning.

Early predictions call for light rain Thursday afternoon that will eventually mix with snow and sleet that evening as colder air arrives. Snow accumulations of one to two inches with light icing is possible by Friday morning.

Precipitation will change to snow Friday morning and will continue throughout the day. Additional accumulations of more than 4 inches of snow are likely by the weekend.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for far southern Indiana from late Thursday night through Saturday morning.
