The petition gathered more than 1,000 signatures in less than four days.

A petition to change the statute of limitation on sexual assaults in Indiana has more than 1,000 signatures and was delivered to Governor Mike Pence last week.

The Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault is sponsoring the petition on change.org and says the petition gained the one thousand signatures in fewer than four days.

The current statute of limitation in Indiana is five years, meaning after that window of time closes, a victim may not press charges and their attacker cannot receive any consequences for the assault.

The rate of reported sexual assaults for high school girls in Indiana is 17.3 percent compared to 10.5 percent nationwide.
