Severe storms ripped through Central Indiana on Friday causing widespread damage. There were numerous reports of trees and power lines down in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Kokomo.
A 51-year-old Kokomo woman is in critical condition after a tree was blown onto a car in which she was a passenger.
In Indianapolis, firefighters were called on nearly 20 reports of downed power lines. One set of power lines set fire to a home 5100 block of Rosslyn Avenue on the city‘s north side. No injuries were reported but damage was estimated at $25,000. A nearby car was also burned in the incident.
A roof was blown off a building in New Castle and in Randolph County, and strong winds tipped a silo onto a building. Power was knocked out to thousands of homes across the state. At one point, Duke Energy reported more than 55,000 customers without power and IPL reported more than 16,000 customers without power.
