The Indiana Supreme Court will decide whether the contract between the state and Leucadia is valid.

The battle over the fate of a southwest Indiana coal gasification plant is headed to the Indiana Supreme Court.

The court announced Thursday it would hear a case in which a group led by Evansville utility company Vectren is trying to nullify a contract between plant owner Leucadia and the state.

Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith sat down with Indiana Senate Utility Committee chairman Jim Merritt to discuss the history of the plant and how recent legislation will be impacted by the Supreme Court’s decision.
