Senator Evan Bayh delivered his farewell speech Wednesday from the Senate floor. Bayh thanked the people of Indiana for the privilege to serve and urged the Senate to work together to meet the growing challenges facing the United States.
“I’m confident because I know our history and our people; I know all of the challenges we have overcome — the wars, the economic hardships, the social turmoil. I know the character of the American people — our resiliency, our innate goodness, our courage and I know that we can succeed.”
Bayh made reference to a late night meeting in October 2008 as financial panic continues to gather force. He said Democrats and Republicans came together that night and their actions helped avoid economic catastrophe.
