Search For Lauren Spierer Extended to Monroe Lake

A week after she went missing, there is still no sign of IU student Lauren Spierer.

The search for missing Indiana University student Lauren Spierer now includes Monroe Lake. Divers with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department are expected back at the reservoir today after receiving the call for help Wednesday night. Sheriff’s Department Captain Mike Pershing says they were told to check the reservoir.

“To see whether or not they might be able to determine if there might’ve been any evidence that Lauren could’ve been in that area,” Pershing said.

Pershing says he doesn’t know the exact location where the divers are searching but they are going out on boats and using sonar. He says the dive team is facing some challenges because the murky waters of Monroe Lake make it difficult to see. Spierer went missing one week ago today. Volunteers continue to organize searches in Bloomington and into Monroe County.
