Rick Santorum will appear on Indiana‘s presidential ballot, after a third reconsideration of his petition signatures. Marion County‘s Voter Registration Office originally ruled Santorum was 24 signatures short of the 500 needed.

The former Senator‘s campaign repeatedly resubmitted signatures it said had been wrongly thrown out. Voter Registration Co-director Cindy Mowery says the office increased the total to 492, and finally credited santorum with exactly 500 signatures, one day before Friday‘s election commission hearing. The commission unanimously voted to put him on the ballot.

The commission also threw out an unexplained challenge to Newt Gingrich‘s candidacy, and removed Pat Sandifer of Lafayette from the presidential ballot. Sandifer submitted only her own signature instead of the 4,500 required statewide.
