Musician Todd Rundgren will serve as grand marshal for this year’s Indiana University Homecoming parade on Friday. An accomplished musician and record producer, Rundgren is most known for his hit “Bang the Drum All Day. The theme of this year’s festivities is “Rocktober Fest,” which is one reason why the IU Alumni Association thought he would be a good fit.
In the fall of last year, Rundgren served as the Class of 1963 Wells Scholars Professor, teaching a seminar for Wells Scholars and Hutton Honors students at IU Bloomington.
He will be back in Bloomington for the parade which begins at 7 PM and will travel west down Third Street to Indiana Avenue where it turns north, concluding at the sample gates.
This year’s late start for the parade is new, says Alumni Program Officer Tricia Riveire. She says with the evening start time, participants will be able to integrate lights in to their parade shows.
After the parade, a pep rally will take place at the sample gates and will include fireworks, IU Athletics Director Fred Glass, cheerleaders and the Marching Hundred.
