Richmond, Indiana financial advisor Don Bates has announced he‘s running for Indiana‘s 6th congressional seat, which is currently occupied by Mike Pence. Bates, a Republican, previously ran for Evan Bayh‘s open senate seat.
“I‘m a Reagan Republican. I firmly believe that President Obama‘s policies are leading the United States of America to the edge of financial ruin,” Bates said.
Bates said he‘s running in part because he has made friends in the U.S. senate who have encouraged him to consider the position. Many experts feel it will be a crowded field, so Bates feels now is the right time to make the announcement. He said he’ll bring a particular strength to the position.
“I‘m a financial advisor, I’m not a politician. It‘s one of the things I’ve carried as a badge of honor on the campaign trail during the senate race and I come with a lifetime of private sector achievement and I really do not aspire to be a career politician,” Bates said.
Bates is the first to announce a run for Pence‘s seat. Pence recently announced he will run for governor.
