Indianapolis-based Republic Airways Holdings has reached an agreement with American Airlines to operate dozens of planes under American‘s “American Eagle” name.
Republic Spokesman Peter Kowalchuk says the company is buying 47 new Embraer E175 planes as part of the deal. He says they‘re also getting six other planes from other sources bringing the total to 53.
Republic Airlines will begin flying the planes beginning in June. Kowalchuk says American Airlines will determine which markets the flights will serve.
The Capacity Purchase Agreement is subject to federal approval in the American Airlines bankruptcy proceedings.
