Former Democratic state representative Peggy Welch has been named the state’s new director of intergovernmental relations.
Peggy Welch was the state representative for the Bloomington area until two years ago, when she lost her seat to Republican Peggy Mayfield.
Since then, Welch has been the director of a lobbying firm for Indiana’s medical device manufacturers.
Now, Welch says Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann has appointed her to be her liaison for city and county officials “for me to be her eyes and ears, bring messages of what’s going on in local government and things that she can do policy wise to affect,” Welch says.
Ellspermann said Welch’s experience in local government and the state legislature made her the right choice to be her state wide liaison.
“We want to continue building on the relationship we began with the 92 county tour last year, making sure mayors and local officials have a person they feel they can reach out to to share concerns and opportunities,” Ellspermann said.
Welch begins the position early July.
