Wednesday will see a statewide push for referenda supporting public transportation and reducing fuel consumption.
Wednesday is national “Dump The Pump Day,” encouraging people to think of alternatives to driving. Every public transportation provider in Indiana is doing some sort of activity around the idea of saving money and the environment. Hoosiers can also take the opportunity to show their support for improved transit by signing an on-line petition that pushes for a statewide transit referenda. The Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority and other transit groups are gathering names and resolutions in an effort to let lawmakers know that hoosiers support a referenda enabling local funding of transit. The groups plan to deliver the names and resolutions to lawmakers when the next legislative session opens in January.
