As funeral arrangements are being made for Terre Haute Police officer Brent Long, killed in the line of duty Monday, the public is offering help to his family. The Vigo County Coroner‘s office says Long suffered two gunshot wounds to the head, one of which was fatal, but officials are not releasing the type of weapon believed to have been used by Shaun Seeley, 33, to kill Long. Long was among a group of officers serving Seeley a probation violation warrant Monday afternoon. Several people exited the house where Seeley was found, but Seeley remained inside. When police entered, Seeley opened fire, hitting Long. Terre Hautians like Wanda Bugni say they want to donate money to Long’s wife and children in the wake of his death…
“I just hope it‘s a little tiny thing to let his family know somebody cares,” Bugni said. Another prospective donor, Anna White, also wanted to help.
“I was shocked, I was disgusted… I can‘t say exactly what went through my mind,” she said.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe watts says Seeley was fatally shot in the gunfire exchange, but couldn‘t say whether it was Long who fired the deadly shot. Long was a six-year veteran of the Terre Haute Police Department and leaves behind a wife and two children.
