Vincennes mayor Al Baldwin attended a public hearing in Kokomo Tuesday night to speak on behalf of Duke Energy’s coal gasification plant in Edwardsport. The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor held a series of public hearings on Duke’s request to revise the cost of the construction of the plant in northern Knox county.
Baldwin said the project has a tremendous economic impact on the community. When proposed in 2006, Duke estimated the cost at over $1.9 billion. However, that cost has since been revised to nearly $3 billion.
The first hearing on the cost increase was held Monday night at Columbus north high school. Tuesday’s hearing was held at the Kokomo Event Center.
