Local camping grounds say they’re losing business after the media inaccurately reported they were closed because of flooding.
Sandy Cicchitto is the manager of Lake Monroe Village on the southwest side of Monroe. She says Memorial Day weekend is typically one of their busiest times, but that wasn’t the case this year.
“When the news reports started airing about the lake being closed,” she said, “and they were intervening predominantly the state facilities. Mentioning all the campground were closed was kind of their statement. Our phones quit ringing; people just took that automatically that to assume that all of the properties were closed. It just killed our holiday.”
Cicchitto says Lake Monroe Village is up higher than the flood waters ever reached. Meanwhile all the state parks that were closed due to flooding are suppose to reopened today (Wednesday) but could expect delays.
