Indiana Political Analyst Brian Vargus says the Indiana Republican Caucus leaderships may be experiencing a “shift” on some social issues.

Those issues include Sunday retail alcohol sales and an amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage. Vargus says Indiana is the only state that does not allow Sunday alcohol sales, an issue he says is overdue for consideration.

He says he also thinks it is smart of the Republicans to wait and see how other states act on the amendment to outlaw same-sex marriage.

“I think it‘s a wise decision on the part of the leadership to wait and see what happens in the other state because then we don‘t have to spend all the money for all the legal talent,” Vargus says.

Vargus says the Republican legislative agenda has also veered away from social issues and focused on jobs and other problems instead, and says even Mitch Daniels warned Republicans to avoid social issues for the good of the party.
