Most places in Bloomington are closed due to the severe weather conditions. The massive 2-part winter storm is causing local government offices to close and send employees home early.
“We are closing because the storm is going to be unpredictable and if it hits us it will be very dangerous so we want to make sure our city staff gets home safely and in time before the storm hits,” said Deputy Mayor Maria Heslin.
Emergency services will remain open and they are asking people to be prepared for the worst. If you need to be on the road, make sure you have a full tank of gas and your cell phone is fully charged. Bloomington Police suggest keeping a winter travel kit in your vehicle in case you are stranded. That includes a blanket, flashlight, snacks, water, small shovel and kitty litter or sand for tire traction.
“We are hopeful with most people off the street that will alleviate our problem with encountering traffic issues but again we a duty to respond and provide the personel our efforts to do so,” said Bloomington Police Captain, Joe Qualters.
The winter storm warning is in effect until 7 P.M. Wednesday.
